The working group Endogenous Geodynamics operates a fluid inclusion laboratory for the investigation and characterization of fluid inclusions in transparent minerals such as quartz, barite, and calcite. An optical microscope (Leica) is equipped with a Linkam THMSG600 heating–freezing stage. Fluid properties are determined by microthermometry based on phase transitions determined by homogenization and freezing temperatures. The system is primarily used to determine the density, temperature, and salinity of palaeofluids associated with the formation of metallic ore deposits.
