Karleugen Habfast Isotope Award for Sacintha Senrathne

Dr. Sachintha Senarathne from the Applied Geology Working Group has won the biennial award from the Dr. Karleugen Habfast Foundation. The award recognizes outstanding scientific work by young researchers who use “stable isotopes” in their research.

In his dissertation, titled “Carbon Transformations in the Tropical Silicate-Dominated Deduru Oya Catchment, Sri Lanka”, Dr. Senarathne investigated the interactions between the water and carbon cycles. Using characteristic isotope patterns of the elements carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, he unraveled the processes of water-rock interaction and the carbon cycle in tropical watersheds. The award was presented to him at the annual meeting of the German Association for Stable Isotope Research (GASIR e.V.) at the University of Freiburg.

We extend our warmest congratulations on this tremendous achievement!
