More than 160 participants from 120 institutions of science and industry took part in the first international RILEM Conference on Mineral Carbonation of Cement and Concrete (MC3 2024) on 16th-17th April 2024 in Aachen. In cooperation with the Rilem TC309-MCP and the #Carbon4Minerals and #CO2treat projects, this conference was held for the first time for interested participants from over 25 countries. The Chair of Mineralogy contributed one presentation and two posters to the conference.

The diverse discussions during and after the conference showed that the subject of mineral carbonation is becoming increasingly important in both the academic and industrial sectors. The efforts and co-operation of research groups and industrial partners should contribute to further reduction in CO2 emissions from the binder industry, which currently account for 5-7% of the global CO2 emissions.
