38 students were able to experience science and technology at this year’s ‘Girls and Technology’ internship at the Faculty of Engineering. At experimental stations and in discussions with female scientists, the participants gained exciting insights into current research and a wide variety of professional fields. The GeoZentrum Nordbayern also took part in the diverse programme. Various questions from the geosciences were addressed with the participants:

How has life on Earth developed over time?
How do rocks change when they are submerged by plate tectonics or exposed to weathering by water and wind?
How can minerals be identified using simple methods, and why do crystals grow in certain shapes?
Why does the kettle in my house calcify? Is the river in my area contaminated with nitrate due to over-fertilisation of the adjacent field?

The participants explored these and other questions at the GeoZentrum’s experimental sta-tions during the Girls and Technology Event [DeepL schlägt hier Internship vor, aber das bezi-eht sich glaub ich eher auf Praktika in der Industrie etc.]. They were instructed by young fe-male scientists from the fields of mineralogy and palaeontology. This provided the students an insight into the diverse world of geosciences.
