EGU General Assembly 2025
27 April – 2 May 2025, Vienna
The GeoZentrum Nordbayern (GZN) participated in this year’s EGU25 conference in Vienna. Successful presentations were delivered by early career scientists, including PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers. Posters, Pico sessions, and oral presentations from Erlangen covered a wide range of scientific fields, such as groundwater research, catchment hydrology, riverine biogeochemical cycles, sedimentology, and tectonics.
For example, Aixala Gaillard presented the LURCH-IsoGW initiative, a research project led by the GZN. This project aims to develop a stable isotope map of German groundwater for stakeholders, authorities, and water suppliers, ultimately contributing to more sustainable groundwater management.
During the week-long conference, which featured over 1,000 sessions, many more presentations were given by GZN members. We thank all our participants for their enthusiasm and for excellently representing the GZN in Vienna.
The European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly is one of the largest and most significant interdisciplinary geoscience conferences in the world, held annually in Vienna, Austria. In 2025, the conference welcomed 20,984 registered attendees from 120 countries. Notably, 56% of the abstracts were submitted by Early Career Scientists (ECS).
