The Applied Sedimentology Group at the GeoZentrum NordBayern (FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg) and Geocosm LLC. are happy to host the 3rd School on the Diagenesis of Silicilastic Sediments in Erlangen. Motivated geoscientists from both University and Industry from all over the world will attend the course.  The school aims at providing both state-of-the-art and innovative concepts on (i) pre-deposition controlling  parameters determining the generation and redistribution of sediments within sedimentary  environments; (ii) hydraulic sorting and depositional facies as predisposing factors on early  diagenesis; (iii) relationship between sedimentology and diagenetic processes; (iv) modeling of compositional data as a tool for understanding and predicting texture; (v) how sand transforms to sandstone:  controls on mechanical and chemical compaction and the formation of carbonate, clay mineral, and quartz cements. Theoretical courses will be integrated with practical lessons and exercises with emphasis on data acquisition, interpretation and compositional data processing, and diagenetic modeling for Reservoir Quality prediction, Carbon Capture Storage, and geothermal energy.
