Structure and reconstruction of early rudist reefs
Untersuchung polierter Oberflächen und selbst erstellter Dünnschliffe
Background: Various Late Ordovician reef complexes are known from the border region between Jiangxi and Zhejiang. Among the best preserved are coral stromatoporoid reefs near Zhuzhai. Two reef units with a total thickness of 7.4 m are known from the lower part of the Xiazhen Formation. The reef-forming species are still poorly understood.
Objectives: Description of microfacies and framework-building organisms, at species level if possible.
Material: Approximately 20 samples are available.
Methodology: Examination of polished surfaces and self-prepared thin sections.
