In 2025, the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) once again honored outstanding scientific achievements, projects, and the contributions of individual members and teams to the university with the ‘FAU Awards’. This year, two awards went to the GeoZentrum Nordbayern.

In the category “Education” — which recognizes initiatives that integrate sustainability into teaching as well as interdisciplinary and didactic innovation — the newly established Bachelor’s program GeoSustainability: Earth Systems, Resources, Biodiversity received an award. This program enables students to build essential knowledge and deepen their understanding of resources, climate, and biodiversity through both theoretical and practical learning. In addition, the FAU Teaching Award for Early-Career Researchers of the Faculty of Natural Sciences — recognizing exceptional dedication and outstanding teaching quality — was awarded to Dr. Emma Dunne. Dr. Dunne held a position at the Chair of Paleobiology at the GeoZentrum Nordbayern from August 2022 to October 2025, focusing on vertebrate paleobiology. She is now Assistens Professor at Trinity College Dublin. We extend our warmest congratulations on the awards!
