Diagenesis of the red algae Graticula from the Silurian of Gotland
Background: The algae of the genus Graticula, classified as Solenoporaceae, often exhibit three different states of preservation on Gotland, sometimes within a single specimen. The reasons for this are unclear. In the literature, this is often explained by a primarily aragonitic (i.e., diagenetically unstable) mineralogy, although the good preservation in some areas contradicts this explanation.
Fieldwork: None
Material: Thin section collection A. Munnecke
Work steps: Photographic documentation, evaluation
Objectives: Documentation of diagenetic changes and their timing, development of a diagenesis model
