Geoscience for Teaching
Additional study Geosciences in lectureship studies
Do you enjoy Geosciences? Are you interested in exploring geoscientific topics in greater depth for your future career?
The additional studies program “Geosciences in Teacher Education” provides an additional qualification for teacher-training students at Gymnasium or Realschule with the subjects Geography, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, or Physics, as well as for teacher-training students at Mittelschule or Grundschule.
In this additional program, the geoscientific content of the Bavarian curricula is taught with a focus on current socio-politically relevant geoscientific challenges, such as resources and sustainability, climate change, natural hazards, groundwater protection, and geothermal energy, from subject-specific, didactic-methodological, and practical perspectives. The program particularly emphasizes the content of the upper secondary school curriculum alternative “Geology” at Bavarian Gymnasien.
To obtain the corresponding certificate “Geosciences in Teacher Education,” students must complete 20 ECTS credits. The additional studies program is designed to span two semesters, with 10 ECTS credits per semester.
1st Semester (Winter Semester):
- “Fundamentals of Geosciences I (Earth System I)” (4 contact hours per week) (5 ECTS)
- “Raw Materials and Sustainability” (2 contact hours per week) (5 ECTS)
2nd Semester (Summer Semester):
- “Dynamics of the Earth System (Earth System III)” (2 contact hours per week) (5 ECTS)
- “Competence Seminar on Climate Change” (2 contact hours per week) (5 ECTS)
