Geoscience Minor

The GeoZentrum Nordbayern offers Geosciences as a minor subject for Bachelor’s and Master’s students enrolled in other degree programs at FAU.

Geosciences are structured around three core areas. Geology deals with the study of the Earth; Paleontology, the science of organisms from past geological eras; and Mineralogy, which focuses on the formation and properties of minerals. Research opportunities in the geosciences are broad and are covered by the various chairs at the GeoZentrum Nordbayern.

Some key focus areas of the geosciences include:

Climate research: causes, impacts, and forecasts
Sustainable resources
Alternative and renewable energies
Development and optimization of materials
Geodynamics and evolutionary research
